Tailgate Party with 3rd Annual Ball Drop & Chili Cook-Off

On Saturday, Oct. 16th, the Tailgate Party began at Fore Seasons Golf Practic Center at 12:30 with a chili cook-off among 16 different types of chili donated by individuals and restaurants in the Jasper County. The celebrity judges were Andy Karr from the Newton Daily News, Jasper County Treasurer Doug Bishop, Susan Forbes from Advantage Real Estate, and the Newton Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director Linda Bacon. Okoboji Bar and Grill won first place and the Golden Ladle Trophy, followed by Larry Daniels with second place, and Hy-Vee in third place. Tailgaters enjoyed chili, tailgate games, the Hawkeye game on the big screen, and the Ball Drop at half-time. 544 golf balls were purchased, which raised $2,345 plus another $165 from tailgate tickets! Unfortunately, the wind was too strong for the hot air balloon to go up in the air for the ball drop, so we used a boom truck instead. Great prizes were given away that day! Thanks for your support! All proceeds will benefit Jasper County health and human service programs.
