As part of its strategic plan, the United Way of Jasper County conducted a county-wide needs survey designed to help evaluate and prioritize health, social and other community issues, The surveys were distributed in September 2009. This comprehensive study of health and human service needs in our county focused on the following areas: health, public safety, self-sufficiency, education and senior issues. The information gathered from this assessment will accomplish the following objectives:
- To pinpoint and prioritize community needs
- To inform and support resource investment decisions
- To build a strong case for support when developing grant proposals
- To strategize community solutions that will improve community conditions
Dialogos Consulting, a research firm specializing in community needs assessment, collected and aggregated the data. Once the initial data was compiled, Dialogos and the United Way conducted community listening circles the week of November 9th-13th. These meetings were used to gather more imput from community leaders to supplement the findings of the paper survey that was distributed in September. The cirlces consisted of professionals in business, education, clergy, healthcare, public safety and human services. The feedback gathered at the circles will be documented in the final needs assessment report that will be completed by Dialogos Consulting.
