“Voices of Inspiration” will feature engaging speakers who will inspire, motivate and inform the audience. The series aligns with the core mission of United Way of Jasper County, which is to uplift and empower the community, and promote life-long learning.
Featured speakers for the spring series will include:
*viral sensation and philanthropist Carson King on April 4;
*Former professional football player Andre Allen on April 11;
*Newton resident, Native American and community activist Carol Kramer on April 25;
*Historian and founder of Notes on Iowa Dr. Kevin Mason, PhD., on May 2;
*Olympic Gold Medalist Ben Peterson on May 9; and

"All our amazing speakers were carefully selected so we could cover a variety of topics, and provide interesting and different viewpoints," said Jessica Lowe Vokes, UWJC Executive Director. "We will feature local residents to international guests from all different backgrounds. The special thing is everyone has a story and there is power and knowledge in hearing people share those stories and this series will focus on that."

PRESTO! New program mixes magic, STEM, arts for youth
United Way of Jasper County and Newton Public Library will be hosting Jasper Co. Academy of Magic classes once a month during the 2022-2023 school year. The classes will be on early out and no school days to allow children 8-12 years old to participate. The first two classes are 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and Nov. 28.
Each class offered by Jasper Co. Academy of Magic at Newton Public Library will feature a magic trick and teach one of the eight traits of a “true magician” – respect, preparedness, authenticity, enthusiasm, creativity, humility, confidence and giving. While children will learn card tricks, make things disappear and much more, they will actually be building self-confidence, improving communication skills, using their creativity and developing friendships. Classes are independent and children do not need to attend all classes. Participants can pick and choose which classes to attend. Registration for Academy of Magic is $10 per class per child and includes a magic trick, magic folder, supplies and a snack.
